Australia's minority communities could be front and centre as the government weighs up any ban on Kanye West, a leading immigration expert says.

Immigration Minister facing calls to ban disgraced rapper.Protecting minority communities as anti-Semitism rises across the globe will likely be a factor in any decision to ban Kanye West from entering Australia, a leading immigration expert says.after launching a series of anti-Semitic tirades during interviews and on social mediaAppearing alongside a prominent Holocaust denier, West has praised Adolf Hitler in interviews, and has questioned the number of Jews exterminated by the Nazi regime.

The anti-Semitism Worldwide Report 2021 found reported incidents had increased sharply in the proceeding year,Global and national immigration leader at BDO Migration Services Maria Jockel said the current context, including a global "revival of fascism" and Holocaust denial becoming a "more vocal issue", may factor into Mr Giles' thinking.

"Is it imperative that he'd be able to come here to visit his wife's family, at the end of the day?" she said. "He's not going to be living here, he just wants to come and say hello to them. They are equally able to go and visit him."Ms Jockel said simply appearing alongside extremists, even without making public racist comments, would be "very troubling" for a minister and could be grounds for refusal on its own.

‘Overwhelming’: David Nduwimana’s rise from refugee to national performerMusician David Nduwimana reveals how he has gone from arriving in Australia as a refugee to performing the national anthem at the Australia Day Live Concert in front of the steps of the Sydney Opera House. Majority of Australians believe it’s ‘very important’ to mark a national dayA majority of new Australians believe it's important to celebrate Australia Day on January 26. This is according to survey findings from AMES Australia, an agency working with refugees and migrants settling in the country. AMES Australia CEO Cath Scarth says most people said that it was “very important” to mark a national day but don’t understand the significance of January 26. “I think for them, many come from countries where they haven’t been able to celebrate … and so the idea of a national day is very important,” she told Sky News Australia.
