She once organised holidays from inside the secretive Pine Gap spy base near Alice Springs, but 30 years later Helen Kilgariff knows one thing — she probably wouldn't be allowed to do it again.

An Alice Springs woman set up a temporary travel agency inside the most secretive intelligence facility in Australia.Security to the Joint Defence Facility Pine Gap has since scaled up, reducing the public's access.But the Alice Springs travel agent had been given extraordinary access to operate beneath the oversized, golf-ball-shaped "radomes" on the edge of town.Helen couldn't even carry a computer or take a mobile phone through the front security gates.

He loved living in Alice Springs and said there was significant compensation for taking a position in outback Australia."If you had a car they would ship your car over for you at no cost and you could drive your left-hand drive vehicle around Alice Springs."Under surveillance But it's unlikely a local travel agent today would ever gain the level of access Helen Kilgariff once had to Pine Gap.
