Those hair clippings have been stuffed into massive stockings, to create giant sausage-like "hair booms", that will be sent abroad to help clean up the mess. Martin Lazare, who runs Esteem Hair Beauty Spa in Penrith with his wife Allison, said he was devastated to hear news of the disaster last month.The Lazares say the Mauritius spill is really close to their hearts.
Their salon has been donating human hair to Sustainable Salons for five years, an organisation which collects and recycles hair, chemicals, and foil from hairdressers, and is spearheading the project to send hair booms to Mauritius.
