Four housemates fled their Blakeview home in Adelaide’s northern suburbs as flames engulfed it about 2.30am on Monday. They had only been living in the Newland Ct home for three months but will need to find other places to live after fire pit ashes disposed of in a wheelie bin reignited and destroyed the building. The seemingly safe ashes had been thrown out in the bin, but the embers remained dormant until about 14 hours later.
The expected damage is an estimated $300,000 as the now-destroyed front room of the house reportedly contained “more than $25,000 worth of electronic and gaming equipment,” one neighbour told 7NEWS. But Roe said those losses were the least of his worries at the time. “The main thing is that I’m glad everyone is safe, at the end of the day, it’s possessions, we can replace those, but we can’t replace people,” he said “It’s not something you expect to happen.
