Onus on security company to train Victorian hotel guards in coronavirus safety, contracts reveals

A contract between the Victorian Government and one of the security companies hired for hotel quarantine shows it was the company's responsibility to ensure guards undertook infection control training and wore personal protective equipment at all times. The hotel quarantine contract between Wilson Security and the Victorian Government has been obtained by 7.

Under the agreement between Wilson Security and the Victorian Government's Department of Jobs, it was up to the security company to provide training — at its own cost — in workplace health and safety and risk management, as well as COVID-19 safety inductions and infection control training, before guards started work.

Wilson Security told 7.30 it notified the Victorian Government of its contracted security labour and did not permit further subcontracting.

Hell to pay.

This security company ?

Really just exactly how much training is required to understand no contact with possibly infected quarantined people and definitely no fucking them!!!

common sense ..stop the international traveller including the stupid Aussies who have not returned home and still roaming the world like fools.

Anyone can write a contract full of clauses but if you sign it and just stick your head in the sand why bother?

What a stupid contract in the middle of a pandemic. The onus should be on the government not a private company to provide training and ppe.

Does this mean there could be a case for class actions against the security companies for failing to train & hence enabling the spread of the virus? Legal work for years to come.

Think they went to the reproduction course in error.

If it truly is major issue, then HOW THE F*** can a security company be in charge of outbreak management? Have they done it before? OR was the company just too greedy? And what was Victoria's health department doing? Sleeping and laying eggs? Idiots! Just STOP the LIES!

They need to get themselves organised first,

Looks like KPIs, commercial-in-confidence, private sector quality all round.

Surely these people being hired know it's wrong to have sex with hotel guests in quarantine

What could possibly go wrong!! Hey we need 40 guards at 0600 tomorrow and we need to train them and on the floors by 0605. That will work right?

clearly, 'not worth the paper it's written on' 7NewsMelbourne 9NewsMelb 10NewsFirst theage theheraldsun 3AW693 SkyNewsAust newscomauHQ TomElliott3AW 3AWNeilMitchell

The hint that something might go wrong was in the rule of the role “Security Guards”. They are not health professionals and should not be expected or allowed to be more than that. Health Dept should do better.

But did anyone CHECK that they were meeting their contractual obligations? Supervision is the key to successful contracts and projects. You can't award a contract and HOPE everything will be ok. That's just incompetence. vicpol auspol

Victorians with coronavirus who are in quarantine do not have to remain inside homeAn exchange between a reporter and Victorias Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton has exposed a loophole that means Victorians who test positive to COVID-19 are not required to remain in their homes for 14 days. I could not believe this either. People have stopped listening to the government. I think this is a very unwise view. And the better view that people do need to stay indoors for quarantine. What is the point of lockdown and destroying people's livelihoods, if those who have tested positive can leave the house for exercise? Seriously?
