Intense heatwave conditions are forecast this week, but 'it's not so much how hot will it get, as how cool won't it get'

Hot and dry conditions throughout the week will mean temperatures won't dip below 20 degrees, even in the cooler parts of the day, the Bureau of Meteorology forecasts.

"From Wednesday through Friday we're going to start seeing intense heatwave conditions in the southern parts of NSW, and that increases into an extreme heatwave at the end of the week in terms of both minimum and maximum temperatures," Ms Barr said.Temperatures are forecast to remain at 25 to 26 degrees at the lowest throughout Saturday night and Sunday morning. But Ms Barr noted the forecast was evolving and a cold front could change in terms of position or intensity.

Sydney's fire danger has been rated "high". Most of the west and northern parts of the state are at "low-moderate".
