An emergency warning has been issued for an out-of-control bushfire that has jumped a highway and is burning towards homes in northern NSW.
The NSW Rural Fire Service has warned people in those areas that it is too late to leave and they should take shelter as the fire front approaches.About 700 firefighters are combatting 50 fires burning across the state on Saturday, 22 of which are uncontained, a NSW RFS spokesman said. "We're getting a bit of a mix of wind directions," Mr Dutschke said. "We've got south easterly winds to its [the fire's] east and south westerly winds to its west. Given that the wind isn't particularly strong it's flipping around a bit and that would be contributing to fire becoming a bit more erratic.""Tomorrow looks like a quieter day for that area in terms of fire behaviour compared to today.
