Just build some solar plants and wind farms and a battery farm - presto problem gone unless Victorians like choking on coal smoke and making climate change worse ? Why is Victoria (the Smart state?) so far behind everyone else ?

Our energy policy is a disgrace.

How? Hey it’s going to be 45 on Friday. Chances are everyone is gonna be using fucking power

How can you have planned outages during the peak demand period? This just one part of thepuzzle though. Aging assets fails indescrinantly, and this has also occurred.

Caught by surprise? Did they know it’s summer

Absolute disgrace. Developing countries often fare better in extreme weather conditions. Politicians should resign over this; stop playing with political 💩 and do your jobs

DefaultSanctions. Energy default should trigger deprivatisation mechanisms to ensure govt guarantee of essential services. We are truly going backwards with NBN and Energy.

Privatizing the state power authorities has been a disaster. Now we have to fluff around periodically to try get a better deal on our power. It’s critical infrastructure and private ownership has proven to chase the $ instead of service combined with value for money. Nationalise

Unfortunate, the amount of money you are taking and it’s unfortunate. Critical infrastructure fails and it’s unfortunate.

How could they be surprised? They knew what the weather was going to be like!

All it takes is for the eastern seaboard to heat up !

I thought the subsidised solar panels ( paid for by taxpayers and non-renewable customers) feeding energy back into the system would eliminate this issue?

AEMO caught by surprise, bullshit, you are not doing your job. Generators failing lack of inspection QA by Lilly Pilly's office. Generators having maintenance during hot months, what a shemozzle. Better supply in Thailand and Indonesia put us to shame. We are a fucking joke.

No bonus for the Chief Exec then for this miscalculation. Who would have thought it would be hot in Australia in summer?

It seems ridiculous with the amount of sunshine we get that we have to have rolling outages to ensure enough elec? It’s like the dark ages.

The core of this goes back to previous governments decades ago. Failure to plan for growth.

He'd be the only one that is surprised.

Hell if they can handle most of what has gone on the last few days, they are well on the way to handling any thing.

Time to put it back into public hands so that electricity is supplied as a service not a profit making asset. Would also allow renewables to be a priority, especially in Victoria.

Hmm - NBN a national joke - privatised energy supplies a disgrace - public transport not capable of taking the pressure off our inadequate road network - what a great place we are in right now

What a base-load of bull!!! Everyone knew the forecast. Get a system that cope with the summer temperature plus 25%. Sick of excuses.

Embarrassed to be an Australian 🇦🇺 these are 3rd world conditions. Time we invested in the infrastructure to meet the demands of a growing population.

Caught by surprise...........LOL. I am looking smarter every day with replies like that.

Dated coal and gas infrastructure to blame for Vic blackouts: Energy Minister | Sky News AustraliaPower is being turned back on in Victoria after the Australian Energy Market Operator directed companies to cut electricity for up to 200,000 people at a time.\n\nState Energy Minister Lily D'Ambrosio has blamed dating coal and gas infrastructure for most of the power grid failure while praising the generation from renewables. \n\nThe operator originally said it would affect just 30,000 people at a time before quickly jumping to 60,000 and 100,000. \n\nA swift drop in temperature in the late afternoon has helped the grid recover from the stress. \n\nImage: News Corp Australia \n\n springst Victoria supposedly has the world's best electricity distribution network. But it seems Australians have made the decision to let the infrastructure become 'dated'. Why? Australians are used to hot weather in the summer? And we're supposedly a first world nation? Or she couldve blamed the UN for making us shut down coal stations but allowing India to build more and making us a third world nation How can that be possible ? Renewables were delivering only 30% of their capacity Coal was crank up to meet renewables shortfall ! How does this fool justify the price of renewables going from $100 to $14,500 per Mw

'Highly insensitive': Injured woman wants Prince Philip charged over crashThe woman who broke her wrist in a car crash involving the Duke of Edinburgh says he should face charges if he is found to be at fault. And so he should. No disrespect to the man, but I’ve never been a royalist. Not a fan of people having titles without working for/earning them. Diddums Simply a fantasy, I’m afraid. Even if it were found to be justified or deserved - it will not happen under any circumstances. Far too many ways that this just evaporates.

Labor wants to make Qld 'ground zero' for hydrogen tech | Sky News AustraliaLabor has committed $3 million to transform the Queensland town of Gladstone into the 'National Hydrogen Innovation Hub', a policy that is hoped would help curb the region’s high unemployment rate. \n\nOpposition Leader Bill Shorten says he has a vision of using hydrogen as one of Australia’s energy sources and exports, the 'equivalent of LNG 2.0'. \n\nThe investment would form part of a Federal Labor plan to inject more than $1 billion into a National Hydrogen Plan to make Australia a ‘world leader’ in the hydrogen industry. \n\nImage: News Corp Australia \n\n\n\n Yet no calculation of the electricity and water requirements to support this industry, and feasible timelines for this increase in electricity generation (likely equal to a 500-1000% RET) or water storage. Waste-to-energy has 'big potential', but caution urgedThe development of waste-to-energy plants in Australia is underway and, while the potential is strong, there are some economic and environmental hurdles to jump first. Excellent - it's about time we stopped sending valuable combustible waste to landfill. Spot on - burning this waste to power an energy plant will reduce our carbon emissions ten-fold. We need more ideas like this. Strange that proponents have limited awareness of options to boost efficiency of waste-to-energy plants. Waste-to-gas allows use of 60% efficient power plants. Burning waste gets you to 30% if lucky. Hence Bill Grant compares CO2 emissions with coal plants DominicCansdale

Energy operator calling on business to cut power to avoid blackoutsThe energy market operator will ask big businesses to power down to help Victoria and South Australia avoid potential blackouts. Wouldnt happen with Nuclear. We are missing out. In South Australia even the diesel generators are working hard. No sign of the big battery. Why isn't it working? Windmills and solar not doing much. LilyDAmbrosioMP All the while you and your Government tweet out new wind farms in the never never....that will produce only more expensive and unreliable power while your policies today could force the few businesses left in Victoria to close. Audacious.
