The number of Liberal women in the Victorian Parliament has been further eroded, with a male secondary school leader chosen to replace the departing Mary Wooldridge in the upper house.
Dr Bach's victory puts the number of Liberal women in the Victorian Parliament to just seven in the 31-member caucus.But his supporters said Dr Bach was clearly the stand-out candidate and performed best on preselection day. More than 140 members voted in the preselection. Dr Bach, who was a first-time candidate, said he wanted to represent the Eastern Metropolitan region because he lives, works, worships and volunteers in the area."But I also saw it as a wonderful opportunity to get in in advance of the next election and start making the greatest possible impact I could for the people of the Eastern Metropolitan region," he said.
