The High Court has rejected an application from the Murugappan family’s lawyers to hear an appeal from the asylum seekers | katinacurtis

The High Court has rejected an application from the Murugappan family’s lawyers to hear an appeal from the asylum seekers.

Advocates for a Tamil asylum seeker family say their fate is now in the hands of Immigration Minister Alex Hawke.Nadesalingam and Priya Murugappan fled Sri Lanka separately, coming by boat to Australia in 2012 and 2013 respectively. They met and married in Australia and had two daughters - Kopika, 6, and Tharnicaa, 4 - after settling in Biloela. But along the way, courts and tribunals all the way up to the High Court have ruled the parents do not have refugee status.

Mr Hawke noted the High Court’s decision and said it “follows a series of previous decisions by the Department of Home Affairs, Administrative Appeals Tribunal, Federal Circuit Court, Federal Court, Full Federal Court and High Court in relation to the family”.

katinacurtis If government didn't uphold the constitution and laws of the land with pride and conviction, it will open a flood gate of illegal boat people/illegal immigrants on our shore. Where there's free ride, there'll be abuse of the legal process.

katinacurtis Government should not pay the large legal bills for illegal boat people regardless of whom. Because of free ride, illegal boat people didn't respect our constitution and laws of our land. We already allowed them to take advantage for too long.

katinacurtis Australia's cruelty knows no bounds.

Tragic final texts before court clerk’s deathThe final text messages between former Victorian magistrate Rodney Higgins and his court clerk fiancee Ashleigh Petrie, moments before she tragically died, have been revealed. Finally the older person gets the younger persons life savings I would be in constant guilt and turmoil if I did half of what some people do. It requires a completely different value system I think, with 'self' at the centre and the rest of the world there for consumption.
