Australian radio and TV star John Blackman has died after a long cancer battle. He was 76. Blackman began his career in radio, working in Goulburn, Canberra and Melbourne, before appearing on TV, in popular shows such as Blankety Blanks, The Paul Hogan Show and Family Feud. But he was best known to audiences of the long-running variety show Hey Hey, It’s Saturday! as the voice of characters including Dickie Knee and Plucka Duck.
” Blackman spent his childhood in the Victorian suburb of Mount Waverley. In 1969, he started his career at 2GN in Goulburn as an announcer. He moved on to 2CA in Canberra, where he worked on air, before moving to 3AW in Melbourne. In more recent years, Blackman joined Triple M Adelaide as co-host of The John Blackman & Jane Reilly Show until December 2007. He also appeared on the 1970s TV game shows Blankety Blanks and Family Feud, as well as on The Paul Hogan Show.
