Pupils and staff will receive two free rapid antigen tests per week and face masks will be mandatory for all secondary students under the NSW government's return-to-school plan:

The NSW government has released a new back-to-school plan as students and staff return to the classrooms.Children and staff will receive two rapid antigen tests per week in New South Wales under the state government's return-to-school plan.

Rapid antigen tests will also be provided to the early childhood education sector, and the mask mandate will apply to childcare staff as well. "Get [your children] tested, and even if they have a negative test on the first day, please keep them home and do a repeat test, and only send them back if there is an alternate diagnosis," she said.

Parents are advised to contact their children's schools to find out how to pick up their eligible RATs. Staff must receive the booster by 25 February if they are eligible, or by three months and five weeks since they received their second dose.Primary and secondary school students and staff, early childhood education, and care staff will be strongly encouraged to take twice-weekly tests before work.

Music rooms, staff rooms, indoor canteens, six bays, and other rooms where there is poor ventilation will receive the air purifiers.

Hospitality venues forced to comply with sqm rules, ban on singing/dancing & forced mask, yet little kids expected to return to class with no sqm rules, inability to physically distance, no masks, poor ventilation, no ban on singing or dancing and for the most part unvaccinated?

Masks were already mandatory in NSW state high schools. 🙄

Teen at home wants to know if the plan includes what to do when someone tests positive

We plan return to school while the US puts a code red travel alert?

So this government expects that after receiving notification that our partially or unvaccinated children have been close contacts, possibly for days, with who knows how many positive cases, that we should still send them to school with who knows how many positive cases?

So instead of preventing it with filters and extra space they hand these out knowing they're all gunna get it. Well my kids won't be going back yet.

UPDATE: The Victorian government has also revealed its return-to-school plan:

That's great - pity mask mandate and RATs haven't been provided to childcare before now....might have stopped my 2 year old from bringing it home

LadyPoop2 Try getting an accurate result twice a week from a 5 year old.. ridiculous plan. Still no backup staff for teachers, or Covid safe classrooms with air filters etc. Awaiting disaster.

Am *I* the only person left in the country who won't get it for free?

So, still nothing on ventilation and air filtration systems. Totally unacceptable! UnsafeSchools

Globalbiosec As a rough calculation - we have approx 1,000,000 students and teachers in NSW (probably more) X 8 rat tests each that’s 8million tests costing tax payers $40,000,000 in 4 weeks! How many families will use them or end up throwing them in the bin domicron covidnsw

Omg!! This is not sustainable. The false positive rate will cripple schools. Our kids are not lab rats. stopthemandate stoptherat stopthewaste

It’s all good in talk but will the government be able to access a ongoing supply of the tests probably not unless it is true nsw has stock piled hmmmmm

Vacation care has been running in many of our primary schools for a week already. Kids & staff packed inside with the rain. Why does NSWHealth just ignore this? We have received no RATs. This happened last lockdown, a complete blind spot.

COVID is a lung disease 2 proven tests to tell if your lungs are healthy and a healthy, anti-inflammatory diet for lung inflammation to avoid any complications

IMHO the antigen tests should be in boxes of 20 and free for all.

NSW records 20,324 new cases as hospitalisations see slight dropUnder the plan, staff and high school students are expected to be required to take a RAT twice a week for at least the first four weeks of term, while staff and high school students will need to wear masks at all times. 9News DETAILS: How about providing a safe environment for both kids and teachers like MarkMcGowanMP's doing in Perth? When do they get tested? Before sending them to school or at school? If the test is conducted at home and is positive, what's stopping me from sending my kids to school? So ridiculous that masks are not required of young children, purely ideological. It's amply demonstrated by other countries that mask wearing is a habit (like brushing your teeths) that can be learned. The arrogance of this gov and some parents is going to cost kids' lives
