With the announcement of a $3.57-a-day JobSeeker increase, single mother-of-two Amy Ivey says she will be ‘going back to very stressful times’ when the coronavirus supplement ends next month.

Ms Ivey said she is"quite scathing" of the federal government's modest permanent boost to the Jobseeker payment.

The modest increase lifts JobSeeker to 41.2 per cent of the national minimum wage and will cost $9 billion over four years. Ms Goldie said Tuesday’s announcement was “a mean-spirited and complete betrayal” of what was really needed to lift vulnerable Australians out of poverty. Employment unions, welfare advocates and the Greens have also slammed the government’s proposed JobSeeker hotline that grants employers power to report anyone refusing a job offer to the government.

Typical disingenuous SBS bleeding heart story telling part of the story ignoring extra payments for dependants and renters. It’s not meant to be a career choice!

What about the extra payments for dependants?

Get a job, it can’t be that hard, your kids are old enough to look after themselves.

Took 40 years to increase Job Seeker by a cheap cup coffee per day ?

The poor & pensioners are treated by govt as economic pawns. When the economy is stuffed, govts throw money at them but when back to normal; pensioners are treated with disdain. Some respect & recognition of value to society wouldn’t go astray.

Looks like her only life skill was getting pregnant.

So… How about getting a Job

Or she could get child support from the 2 fathers and perhaps find a you know “job”

I feel sorry for her kids. They don’t deserve this 😢

Crops can’t get picked, cafes and restaurants can’t open on their full hours... all because they can’t get workers.... But it’s obviously too hard for some to get a job?!

I hear you but you just got a windfall when ordinarily you would not have received it, so surely some planning, knowing it was going to end would have been a good idea.

SBS Go fruit picking! 🥱💤

SBS You should be 'going back' to work

Simple, pay rent so kids have a roof over their heads. Funding to schools to provide uniforms, books, breakfast and lunch. Bills covered to ensure necessities provided for children. Food vouchers for other meals and home requirements. Fuel vouchers or public transport to find job

Don’t lose hope yet. The PM is going to face a reckoning very soon and will either change approach or be removed from office.

If the gov dealt with the long termers (2-3 yrs plus) then I don't believe a lot of us would have a 'get a job' opinion. It really grates on the tax payer that there is ppl out there that turn welfare into a career choice. This is where the system fails & where the stigma falls.

Look I’m all for helping people get back on their feet, yet I do wonder at which point it becomes a lifestyle choice. Shouldn’t a jobseeker actually be seeking a job. Yes training for a new job is great but we all must do jobs we consider below us to get to our desired job.

Get a Job

To be fair she has had a payrise for doing nothing the last year. Get off your arse and find a job!

At least she gets an increase. We are in a worldwide crisis on latest reports

The gov plans to abolish supplementary payments - maths. Existing supplementary payments include the energy supplement, which starts at $8.80 per fortnight for a single person and is paid to all jobseekers, and the pharmaceutical allowance, which is $6.20.

Tried getting a job?

Get a hair cut and a job.
