There was serious doubt on Saturday night whether the Pool A thriller would go ahead in Yokohama on Sunday as the greater Tokyo and Yokohama regions were gripped by evacuation alerts caused by the approaching super storm.But neither Scotland nor host nation Japan were taking their eyes off the prospect of a quarter-final berth, with the Brave Blossoms wading through floodwater to make their captain's run session at Prince Chichibu Stadium and Scotland unwilling to entertain a cancellation.

"It would definitely be up there. We've been in since the start of June working incredibly hard to get to where we want to be and come Sunday we've got a chance to let loose and get to a quarter-final," he said. Meanwhile, in greater Tokyo, authorities issued evacuation alerts for areas close to the Tamagawa River as the approaching storm brought record levels of rainfall.
