Despite overnight rain, hot, dry weather and severe fire danger are forecast again this week with the weather bureau expecting temperatures to climb above 40 degrees Celsius in parts of the south.

"It's another repeat of the typical fire weather pattern that we've seen four of five times now over the fire season starting way back in September and happening really every month since then."Over the next few days the winds do drop off a little bit, so the fire dangers aren't quite as bad in that sense, but it is still very hot and very dry.

"It won't be quite as hot as the heatwave we saw late last year, where Cairns saw temperatures well over 40 degrees for three or four days in a row, but still hot enough through the day and the night to trigger our heatwave sort-of threshold," Mr Crock said.

Man 'critical' after apparent overdose at Ballarat festival, another dies at NSW eventOne man is in hospital and another has died after apparent overdoses at separate music festivals What a pity this poor, deceased young man wasn’t strip searched and his MDMA, GBH, cocaine and whatever else he had found and confiscated. He’d probably be alive. And if you think pill testing would’ve helped, you’re wrong. He wouldn’t have bothered with to test his drugs. 15 people die every day in Australia due to alcohol consumption. Even though these deaths are tragic, why not express outrage about western society’s ignorance? People die of drug overdoses everywhere. Why are music festivals singled out? If he died in a library or in a cinema or in a bar would we point that out?
