NSW Senator Kristina Keneally has revealed her “delayed grief” because the COVID-19 pandemic meant she could not visit her dying father in the United States or attend his funeral. | niltiac

The international border opens to vaccinated tourists and other visa holders on Monday, nearly two years since it was slammed shut in March 2020 in the early days of the pandemic.

That experience was compounded by having to get up at 2am and watch her father’s funeral live-streamed on Facebook, and missing his military funeral entirely because it could not be live-streamed. Mr Kerscher was a hit with the press when he visited in 2011 and appeared with his daughter, then the NSW Premier, on the campaign trail. A staunch Republican and avowed climate change sceptic, his political views were often at odds with his daughter’s, but he endorsed her as “a good and decent person” and well educated.Senator Keneally said his “great feminist act” was to raise her the same way he did his sons, and teach her how to act with conviction, not hesitate or hang back.
