Hospital patients are getting caught in the middle of a battle between public hospitals and private health insurers over who should pay for their treatment.
Private health insurers claim they are being used as a cash cow by financially strained public hospitals.For some patients its as innocuous as the posters on the wall of the Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne inquiring "Do you have private health insurance?" and wooing them with the line that it will help support the hospital to "continue improving our patient services."
"He was extremely ill and just agreed as all he was told is that it would not cost him anything," was the verbatim feedback from his wife. "If this is how people are going to be treated to manage your operating costs something is terribly wrong,” said Dr David.

Why on earth do we have to have private health insurance if we can't use it? What's more, some of us would rather support the public system than the private health system and it's only fair that it's covered in the same way as the private system. auspol
