NATO chiefs off to prickly start as hot mic captures cool reception

US President Donald Trump said he called out Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for failing to meet a spending target on NATO, also slamming Mr Trudeau for indiscrete comments earlier caught on video.Europe, Turkey and Canada are expected to respond to Mr Trump's accusations over spending"He's two faced," Mr Trump said when asked about remarks Mr Trudeau seemed to make about the US president's performance at a news conference at a NATO summit in Britain.

Leaders have agreed to set up a committee of experts to analyse political decision-making after French President Emmanuel Macron lamented the"brain death" of the military alliance.They agreed in a communique on Wednesday to"a forward-looking reflection process" to be led by NATO secretary general Jens Stoltenberg.

"Clearly it is very important that the alliance stays together," British Prime Minister Boris Johnson told reporters as he prepared to welcome heads of state and Government.NATO is expected to also warn China for the first time that it is monitoring Beijing's growing military might.
