‘He is ready to be prime minister’: Gillard makes rare intervention to back Albanese | katinacurtis

Australia’s first female prime minister Julia Gillard has made a rare intervention in domestic politics to urge Australians, especially women, to vote for Anthony Albanese and Labor tomorrow.

Their unified stand contrasted with the Coalition: while former Liberal deputy Julie Bishop has appeared with some of the moderates fighting off independent challengers, she was nowhere to be seen as Scott Morrison visited four seats in Perth on Friday.“What I want to see for this country is a government that cares about, values and includes women. And I know that a government led by Albo will do precisely that,” Gillard said.

“The fact that that young kid is now running for prime minister says a lot about her and her courage. But it also says a lot about this country,” he said, tears welling in his eyes.Albanese said he felt a great responsibility to be successful on Saturday because he saw so many people relying on a change in government.
