Analysis: Boris Johnson's three years as prime minister ended with the resignation of more than 50 of his ministry. Yet he has failed to rule out a comeback, writes Rob Harris

Boris Johnson, whose three years as prime minister began with a thumping, once-in-a-generation election victory and ended with the resignation of more than 50 of his ministry, leaves Downing Street unable to rule out a comeback.

“So this is a kind of an end of a helter-skelter period, to put it politely. He will be a great loss to politics – but, hopefully, it will only be a temporary loss.” Johnson has been a towering figure in British politics for more than a decade, recovering from being sacked from his party’s frontbench in 2004 over lurid claims about his love life to becoming a popular two-term mayor of London. He has played up his oafish reputation and because of it struggled to be taken seriously.

But nobody left in Britain, and perhaps even further afield, was left agnostic about Johnson in the end.

A truly despicable individual

Was it just 3 years? Seems like a lot more🤪🤪

Who knows, he is very good deploying the 'William Shatner method of over-acting' so may be eligible for Oscar award or at very least the Raz award even? Go Boris!? lol.

Hope not!
