The AFL Rising Star award could lose its top two contenders in a matter of hours after West Coast star Harley Reid put himself at risk of a suspension in Saturday night’s loss to St Kilda. The Eagles star entered the clash as the clear frontrunner for the honour following a two-match ban handed down to Western Bulldogs young gun Sam Darcy earlier in the day.
Harley Reid at risk of ban after dump tackle. But Reid now faces being sidelined, and also made ineligible for the Rising Star as a result, after a dangerous tackle on Darcy Wilson. Wilson received a handball deep on the wing late in the third quarter and attempted to burn Reid with a step, only to be collected along the boundary line. Reid grabbed Wilson’s jumper at the back with his right hand and the front with his left, slinging the Saints man to the ground.
