A record 2000 fireworks will shoot from the four sails of the Sydney Opera House as more than one billion viewers worldwide watch this New Year’s Eve | MeganGorrey

The countdown to midnight will start at 8.30pm when images of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dancers and flags will be projected onto the sandstone pylons of the Harbour Bridge. The projections will continue with a Welcome to Country ceremony, hip hop show and fireworks, curated by Indigenous artist Blak Douglas, at 9pm.

Fireworks director Fortunato Foti, whose family has organised Sydney’s fireworks for 25 years, said fireworks would be launched from 6000 firing points across 178 spots on the Harbour Bridge to make the structure appear to be “dancing with colour”. A record 2000 fireworks would be blasted from the four sails of the Opera House.

The celebrations will be broadcast on television and radio across the globe as part of the ABC’s event NYE2021: Let’s Celebrate!, hosted by Charlie Pickering, Zan Rowe and Jeremy Fernandez from 8.30pm. Cr Moore said Sydney residents deserved a party after two years of pandemic restrictions and lockdowns, adding the celebrations were an opportunity to support the city’s business, hospitality and tourism industries.“We’re encouraging people to make a night of it - to book into a restaurant or bar to start the evening, stay overnight at a hotel and support our terrific Sydney businesses, many of whom have really struggled to keep afloat over the past two years,” Cr Moore said.

MeganGorrey What a waste of money

MeganGorrey Who gives a flying fuck

MeganGorrey It will be exactly the same as every year I can remember. Why don’t we mix up the creative team and see if someone has a new idea. Same fireworks. Same locations. Same projections. Creativity is needed!

MeganGorrey Good. Show your balls Australia. We’ve missed you. Don’t be New Zealand.

MeganGorrey Who thinks up this stupid crap. A nation recovering from devastating fires, and you celebrate with fire

MeganGorrey Will they broadcast from the covid internment camps?

MeganGorrey Massive waste of money.

MeganGorrey Climate change... hmmm.. remember the smoke cloud that they leave behind... forget fireworks. Time to find a fibre optic light display to replace it... NetZero

ScottyThePathologicalLiar is only for the rich. How about opening the purse strings on the $2B relief fund set aside to help people & businesses in fire devastated areas to reestablish. Another announcement he failed to deliver. Doesn't matter what this Indian giver promises, he's goose is cooked & baseball bats at the ready.
