OPINION: It would do no harm for Peter Dutton to make a big deal of the Liberal Party’s election review, perhaps by making it the centrepiece of any Press Club speech he decides to do at the start of the political year.

Despite all that came and went in between, the pandemic included, he pretty much stuck to it.

Rather than bury the findings, Albanese released them in full and backed them in the next day in a speech to the National Press Club.as a down payment on abandoning pretty much the rest of the cluttered agenda spurned by voters, and indicated the party would not go to the next election promising to outspend the government by billions on health and education.

“The focus on Morrison’s character was highly effective. Morrison’s unpopularity is the single most significant factor in Labor’s victory,” it said. Importantly, however, Albanese and Labor were acutely aware of all this from the beginning and the need to address it. For example, had Albanese not contracted COVID-19 this week, the entire ministry would have been meeting in WA on Friday in what would have been the prime minister’s 10th trip to the west since the election.

But the key focus will be on the increasingly dysfunctional and factionally torn state divisions, primarily NSW, Victoria, South Australia and WA. Always eager to give Morrison free advice on how to handle the states during COVID-19, Albanese, in his negotiations over energy, is discovering first-hand how recalcitrant and parochial they are.

We wuz robbed, says Andrews’ Liberal challenger in MulgraveDefeated Liberal candidate Michael Piastrino has taken to TikTok for a little Donald Trump-style election denying and has challenged the premier to a rematch. | CBD Why indulge this rubbish? Ian Cook exposed a high level of corruption within the Mulgrave electoral district. Perhaps it’s the same corruption that the unsuccessful Liberal Party candidate is blaming? Regarding Ian Cook, the man campaigned clean, with dignity, intelligently and was the second highest polling candidate in Mulgrave under Dan Andrews. Mulgrave is no longer safe. It’s marginal. Piastrino wasn’t helped by a lame Liberal campaign and impotent Opp. Leader.
