Melburnians have been posting pictures on social media as hail showers made for a frosty morning, marking the tail end of a wintry blast. But warmer, sunnier weather is just around the corner.

Hail showers have made for a frosty morning across Melbourne, marking the tail end of a wintry blast which will soon make way for warmer, sunnier weather.

A 15-metre tree smashed into the back deck of a Ringwood North home, and another tree fell onto the roof of a house in Menzies Creek. No one was injured.There was also heavy rain, particularly in the north-east of Melbourne. Monbulk, past Mount Dandenong, had the most rain in the 24 hours to 9am on Monday with a total of 30 millimetres, while Coldstream recorded 28 millimetres.

A severe weather warning is in place for damaging winds in some parts of the state, including Melbourne, Wonthaggi, Frankston, Falls Creek, Mount Buller and Omeo.But the cold weather is set to thaw on Wednesday, when the temperature is forecast to hit a maximum of 20 degrees with no chance of rain. "Certainly [on Monday] there is still some strong shower activity over eastern suburbs and there is the risk of hail and thunder this morning.
