‘Gutless and scared’: Local businessman predicts more crime and ‘suffering’ for Alice youth

Following intense media pressure around the country to visit the region, the Prime Minister joined the Northern Territory Chief Minister in the embattled town on Tuesday to unveil short-term responses to the deteriorating crime wave.

In an emotional critique of the new restrictions, Darren told Sky News Australia on Wednesday it was a quiet night in the town’s CBD on Tuesday following the official visit but he warned the situation will return to the status-quo immediately. Darren’s key concern was the protection of the town’s at-risk youths and said the lack of meaningful policy responses would only deteriorate the situation further.

“It’s never going to work because they're gutless and they're scared and they think they can play us for fools down here and they think they can play the rest of Australia for fools. “What are they going to do because I know what’s going to happen, people behind me they’re going to get broken into even more,” he said of the 50 locals who gathered.
