Australian voters appear unmoved despite major parties’ billions in election campaign promises

Support for both the major parties has dropped since the start of the federal election campaign, but Labor is emerging as the party most trusted to manage the cost of living pressures facing Australians.

The Coalition’s support is higher among older voters, men, and people in New South Wales and Queensland. For the first time, the Coalition has also won over more female voters than Labor, 34% to 32%, but this remains within the poll’s margin of error. But while the major parties are struggling to win the support of voters, the poll has also found a large drop in the number of people who feel that “Australia is heading in the right direction” compared to a fortnight ago.

Four out of five of voters listed cost of living as important, with 47% ranking it very important. It is the most important issue, ahead of improving public services , job security and climate change .

Will this be the election where it can be said 'it was the West that won it'?With two Liberals leaving their seats, a weakened party machine at a state level and a wildly popular Labor premier, could it be the year Western Australia decides who leads the country? No No. It will be all over once the Victorian votes have been counted. Another reason Liberals were trashed in the WA election was they went more left than Labor. Another reason why states federally vote counter to the incumbent state government is we distrust all parties with too much power and balance one against the other. Privilege of Democracy.
