Police say a man whose body was dumped in bushland near Batemans Bay on the weekend may have met up with a man through dating app Grindr before his suspicious death.

Police say a man whose body was found in bushland on the NSW South Coast on the weekend may have met up with a man through the dating app Grindr before his death.

The 56-year-old man's body was dumped in the small town of Broulee and was found by a man walking his dog on Sunday afternoon. Police are treating the death as suspicious and Homicide Squad Commander Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty said initial inquiries suggested the Canberra man had arranged to meet up with someone he met through the app that day.Detective Superintendent Doherty said the man had driven from Canberra to Batemans Bay on Sunday morning in a friend's purple Honda Jazz car with ACT number plates, YFD 00H.

Police are also interested in speaking with anyone who may have dashcam footage of this car as it was driven between Canberra and Batemans Bay. The man was wearing blue jeans, a sleeveless dark blue fitted t-shirt and white sneakers when he was found.
