Allowing Australians to grow six marijuana plants in their homes could yield $28 billion, according to a parliamentary body report.

A cost breakdown revealed legalising cannabis for adults would generate $28 billion, according to a Parliamentary Budget Office report commissioned by the Australian Greens Party.

As a result billions of dollars would be saved from police and criminal justice expenditure and redirected to schools, housing, hospitals and social support. “This is an opportunity for some serious investment in social justice,” Mr Shoebridge said in a statement on Monday. It would act as the wholesaler between producer and retail outlets and set the price according to the drug's street value.

But if you get drug tested while driving days later after smoking it you can lose your license so they'd need to fix the testing as well to actual inebriation not residual

who are the dealers?

It’s about time to change these stupid laws. As a certified RWNJ this is the only green’s policy that I can agree with.

Why should we have to smoke it? What about edibles?

how has it taken them this fucking long to figure this out

Bugger me, the cuzzy bros down the road grew a 1000 hectares and used the local forestry company water supply for free. Six plants would be for giving away free samples before someone buys the whole plot of pot.

Free the weed. I am not a criminal.

It demonstrates the hypocrisy of Government. Something they made illegal for addiction purposes is now the new money spinner! Does it mean those who were fined & have records for possession get compensated for a product that can’t be patented? Poker machines are more dangerous!

Is Albo doing this as a favour to a previous Australian of the year, who loves to pull a billy or two?

What a joke.... Just give another $100 million to Ukraine and the Nazis in Kiev.

Yield means somebody gives up something to someone else 🤔

I'm getting on and will not be smoking weed that kills me. Bring it on.

🌌🪐👑😀👍❤️🌅

Or the could come into your studio where there seems to be plenty of dopes

It’s all about the money, money, money.. phase out cigarettes.. bring in the weed.. funny how that works.

Thinking of Australian Tourism & their future Welcome to Country & Smoking ceremonies..🤭

I guess selling a grow licence would get most people to pay up. But the big issue is testing for incapacitation. Despite looking every place I can there is notated levels. It's yes or no. Alcohol has for full licence holders driving a car a reading of 0.05

6 plants is more than personal use

Hemp is a wonderful product, it can replace cotton, plastic and many ingredients in pharmaceutical and beauty products. Its a good Carbon soak, and uses very little water. But there you are, big business doesn't want that.

I'm always bewildered how roadside tests are to detect cannabis or Met. But not Methadone or Cocaine. If anyone has ever driven after using cannabis, .(I'm told).its definitely a slow drive.

It was always about the money with the government.

Why stop there? How about meth? Heroin? Get everyone cooking! Lots of $$$$ there. Let's do it! I'll quit my day job straight away.

So you're happy to tax beer out of the market, and having a cheaper drug that replaces it.

The road carnAge is bad enough now. Please no more

How.....?

'French Kiss the joint,' would be an discussion on an fungus that wants to die, because it doesn't like the way it smells. Which would be repeatedly ripped off for an ice-cream cone rather than, 'You just cut me up to bits.'

So the percentage of teens that develop schizophrenia from using dope, how much extra will that cost to deal with.

Seriously looney, Shoebridge a classic example of what marijuana use can do to the human brain

How much would it lose from people being doped

Terrible idea. I’d rather drug affected drivers off the road altogether instead of putting my life and others at risk.

Talking puppets at it yet again. If mama nature gave it to us, cultivate and use it ... Simples. and their enforcers can go suck a donkey leg. Learn your rights of law and go live your life people.

Well derrrrr

So it's got nothing to do with health. But all about revenue.

How? I'm not going to tell the government what I do at home. It's no one's business.

How can growing six natural plants in your home net the Government $28 billion, as wacky as suggesting electricity companies will reap profits from those who produce their own solar power

And if you believe this you must be on something!

Lies

This'll be a weird side hussel. But I'm keen

So if someone grows 6 plants for personal use, where’s the market? Who’s going to pay for it? 🤷‍♂️

Yeah because pot dealers are so honest they'd do their B.A.S and pay their tax, no trouble ever came from drugs.

Australia is already a drug fked dope country. They want you all stupid and compliant. No better drug to do that than weed.

Yeah, that wouldn't have any negative consequences. 😵‍💫

The very first thing from Greens in favor of Australians. Everything else was directly against interest of ordinary Aussies.

What nonsense most already grow their own weed, I have for nearly 50 years. Weed isn't the problem, cocaine and MDMA are the problem. 🤔

wasn't albo fixing the housing crisis?

Meanwhile you can’t buy a vape in Australia. Good luck with the pot.

Pot dealers paying taxes and not collecting Centrelink. Sounds like LNP wet dream.

Will Bunnings or other garden outlets sell the seeds?
