A grandmother who bit off her friend's finger during a drunken fight in Melbourne's south-east has avoided jail.
Mansis Bandi, 50, from Pakenham, had been drinking alcohol at a party at a friend's farmhouse in Cranbourne in October 2017, when she got into an argument with a friend.Mansis Bandi has avoided jail over a drunken fight with a friend. Bandi then bit off her friend's left ring finger, which had to be amputated.Judge George Georgiou said Bandi did not instigate the altercation and acted in a way which she believed was self-defence, but took it too far.Bandi is a respected leader of the Papua New Guinean community in Melbourne.
She earlier pleaded guilty to recklessly causing serious injury after some other charges were dropped. Bandi received a three-year good behaviour bond in Victoria's County Court and was ordered to make a $300 donation to charity.
