ABC's Tony Jones issues rare on-air correction over Sky News ratings | Sky News AustraliaHost of the ABC's Q&A program Tony Jones has issued a rare on-air correction, at the very end of the broadcast of the show, regarding comments which disparaged Sky News television ratings aired on the publicly-funded broadcaster.\n\nDuring a live broadcast of the network's weekly flagship political program on August 26 Shadow Immigration Minister Kristina Keneally noted that platforms including 'Sky News After Dark' were growing in Australia.\n\nThe Shadow Minister was interrupted by ABC host Tony Jones who interjected that the subscription television network was 'growing to a very small audience, to be fair. You’re probably talking about 5,000 people watching at that time', followed by an invitation to 'correct the record' by Sky News.\n\nSky News CEO Paul Whittaker took up the offer to correct the record and wrote to ABC management including recently installed Chair Ita Buttrose and news director Gaven Morris requesting a correction to the record to adhere to the ABC's charter which mandates factualness.\n\nMr Whittaker noted in the letter that Sky’s evening average viewership between 6pm and 10pm on Foxtel alone, 43,921, is 'more than eight times higher than the number referenced on the Q&A program' which outrates ABC News in Foxtel homes by 350 per cent.\n\nIt also receives ratings on par with ABC News across regional Australia via its Sky News on WIN channel which is a commercial operation and receives no government funding to operate.\n\nSky News’ recent half-yearly results saw a 29% audience increase year on year to its evening programming. In primetime Sky News reaches 472,000 Australians per week on Foxtel and 374,000 per week in regional Australia on Sky News on WIN, to deliver an audience 12 times larger than the publicly funded broadcaster claimed.\n\nThe correction from the national broadcaster follows a recent study by independent media monitoring service Streem which showed 'newsworthy' print and online media articles, examining more than one million Exactly! When is he leaving?! The Australian people have had enough of Tony Jones. Please move on! Still, nobody watches because the content and presenters have damaged the brand too much. Nobody watches Sky, its crap.

'The government turned their backs on the Tamil family' | Sky News AustraliaGreens leader Richard Di Natale has lashed out at the government for attempting to deport a Biloela family, saying Australia was “the only place [the two children have] ever known'. \n\nPriya, Nadesalingam and their Australian-born children four-year-old Kopika and two-year-old Tharunicaa were taken to Christmas Island after an 11th hour injunction stopped them from being deported. \n\n“They came here, started a life, they were welcomed with open arms by a community in regional Australia who opened their hearts while the government had turned their backs on them,” Di Natale told Sky News Australia. \n\n“We know the situation in Sri Lanka is very volatile,” the Greens leader said. \n\n“We know that these are people that witnessed extreme brutality in the midst of an ongoing civil war.” \n\nThe family was taken from its home and has been held in a Melbourne detention centre since March 2018 following the expiry of the mother’s temporary bridging visa. \n\nThe family's case is due to be heard in the Melbourne Federal Circuit Court on Monday. Send all country shoppers home. One rule for all. He doesn't want to deport anyone though. Funny how our government kicks out these people who are working, good members of the community, well adjusted.. and instead let in criminals...
