Draft bill, to be published on Monday, aims to improve safety for separating families

The bill implements the recommendations ofto remove the presumption of equal shared “parental responsibility” because it appeared to be “leading to unjust outcomes and compromising the safety of children”.

The requirement for courts to consider “equal or substantial and significant time with each parent” will also be removed, although judges will still be able to make orders for shared parental responsibility and equal time. The paper explains that parents will no longer “automatically” have to consult each other on decisions like authorising medical treatment, giving responsibility solely to “the person who has the physical care of the children at the time in relation to day-to-day matters”.

The release of the bill follows a controversial family law inquiry in the last parliament, which elevated the One Nation leader, Pauline Hanson, to deputy chair andZoe Rathus, an expert on family law and domestic violence at Griffith University, told that inquiry thehad proved “extremely dangerous” and acted to prevent people from airing allegations of domestic violence in the family court.

The 'Review' underlying the draft bill was the equivalent to UK's Risk of Harms Report No real evidence - just anecdotes from aggrieved mothers There is no valid evidence that 50/50 shared care is 'dangerous' We must return to scientific empiricism and standards of analysis

Family Court judges interpretation of best interests of the child = maximum profits for small grubby law firms. Now Dreyfus wants to pack back his supporter base

The problem is that there will be always room for one side to take advantage of the law. Impose equal time, abusive partners get a leverage to exert control. Do not impose it, manipulative parents will play victim and alienate children from the other. There's no clean solution.

Child welfare has been paramount in the Family Law Act since its inception. Catch up

Don't have kids with people you can't get along with. I'm so happy I choose never to have any. This weekend i went to park, read a book, had a drink with a friend and watched a movie...wait this is most weekends for me lol single 40 lovinglife noBrats No ex to worry about

as a single father with full custody, this is a good thing and anyone who complains about it is only ever interested in their children so that they can use them as weapons against their much-more-responsible ex-partner now have a look at all the deadbeat absentee parent comments

Oddly the Left want to remove fathers from their children despite the positive effects.

This is a distinctly anti-male, anti-father move. Women use the family court system to destroy fathers reputations, without the need for evidence, to a friendly army of feminist trained social workers intent on removing fathers from their children's lives.
