Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has confirmed the federal government will continue to hold discussions with Facebook and is committed to working through its concerns with the media bargaining code. The treasurer today condemned the social media giant’s move to ban all Australian news content on its platform, calling it wrong and heavy-handed. He revealed the government had not been given any notice by Facebook of the move.

Referring to his “constructive” conversations with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, Mr Frydenberg said, “there are some differing interpretations as to how the code would work”. “We talked through some of those elements and we’re happy to help clarify some of those issues with Facebook,” he said.
