Government promises to fund pay rise for aged care workers | katinacurtis

The federal government has promised to fund an increase in aged care workers’ wages, telling the Fair Work Commission pay rates in the sector should be “significantly higher” without nominating a figure.

Ministers Tony Burke, Mark Butler and Anika Wells said a pay rise was crucial for the future of the sector. “The Commonwealth will provide funding to support any increases to award wages made by the commission in this matter and that will help deliver a higher standard of care for older Australians.” Health Services Union national president Gerard Hayes said the promise to fund any increase was “the decent thing to do” on the government’s part.

The aged care royal commission recommended government, unions and employers work together on a case to boost pay and attract more staff to the sector.

katinacurtis But not suggesting any amount for pay rise. Great for workers but the job remains unchanged

katinacurtis This is all very good for the workers, but when are we going to see improvements in conditions for the people living in aged care?

katinacurtis That's great. Now they need to put security cameras in all areas of the homes to stop or at least catch abuse of the elderly. Independent in-house monitoring as well. They can use software to pixelate nudity.

katinacurtis

katinacurtis When the report was written, inflation wasn’t factored in the recommended pay rise at the time. Inflation rate is 6.1%. A pay rise would need to add the inflation rate to the pay rise to consider it a pay rise, otherwise, it’s Bullsh*t
