Airtrain chief executive Chris Basche said direct services to the Gold Coast were an important part of its long-term deal with the Queensland government. Tate said while Cross River Rail would have some benefit to the Gold Coast, he was concerned about the effect the change would have on travellers.

“Seamless travel between Brisbane and the Gold Coast is so important to our visitor economy, especially for visitors travelling through Brisbane Airport,” she said. Basche said Airtrain had sought to engage with the government on future network planning and indicated he did not consider the matter to be settled.
