A quick-thinking Queensland man has been praised for towing his burning caravan away from his home, after it erupted into flames early Thursday morning, and saving several houses in the process. The fire broke out at the man’s property on Floribunda Pl, Ormeau, on the Gold Coast hinterland, about 2am, and is thought to have been caused by a lithium battery stored inside the van.

Fences and trees were also set ablaze on the suburban street, but footage shows the man leaping into action, towing the caravan away from his home and stopping the fire from spreading to a nearby house. It took 30 minutes for firefighters to get the blaze under control, and nobody was injured in the blaze. On Friday, reporter Sam Payne joined Sunrise from the Gold Coast and offered more details about the dramatic incident.
