A Gold Coast City Councillor charged with the murder of his stepfather will accept a voluntary suspension from his role in local government, according to his lawyer.His lawyer says he will accept a suspension from councilRyan Bayldon-Lumsden, 30, is accused of killing his stepfather Robert Lumsden, 58, at their Arundel home on August 23.
He was not required to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court where his case was briefly mentioned this morning. The case was adjourned until January and prosecutors were ordered to provide a brief of evidence to his lawyers by December 15. Outside court, his lawyer Jason Murakami, said he had advised the state government that he would be taking the voluntary suspension."I believe that's the fairest outcome for everyone involved — the councillor themselves, all of the witnesses, council staff, the City of the Gold Coast as well as the people who live in his division," Mr Miles said.
On Monday Mr Miles gave Cr Bayldon-Lumsden until Friday to explain why he should not be suspended on full pay until the next election in March 2024.His lawyers said he intended to plead not guilty.
