NT Attorney-General Selena Uibo launches a scathing attack on Greens senator Lidia Thorpe after the senator's speech on youth bail laws incorrectly assumed Ms Uibo was a male and 'hopefully' white.

NT Attorney-General Selena Uibo has launched a scathing attack against Victorian Greens senator Lidia Thorpe over her comments on recent changes to youth justice bail laws.Senator Lidia Thorpe's speech indicated she incorrectly believed the NT Attorney-General was a manSenator Thorpe said the NT's changes to youth bail laws were 'disgusting' and 'racist'

In NT Parliament last night Ms Uibo, an Aboriginal woman, said Senator Thorpe needed to get her "facts straight" after her speech in Canberra on Tuesday incorrectly assumed Ms Uibo was a male, who "hopefully" was white. In her speech, Senator Thorpe referred to an open letter sent to the NT Government from child and adolescent health organisations that had urged them to reconsider changes to youth bail laws — which were passed in NT Parliament on Tuesday night.

"I do hope the Attorney-General, given he probably didn't read the royal commission recommendations, hopefully he listens to these experts," she said.Senator Thorpe said the NT Government should be ashamed of themselves in her speech.

lidia__thorpe will be henceforth known as lidiot

Ms Uibo is more aboriginal than Senator Thorpe.

Lidiot true to form, she is the most unimpressive member from the greens and that is a mighty hard list to top given Sarah Sea patrol Hansen, She is so ?

How is this the story? Senator Thorpe is right. These amendments will make mass incarceration of Indigenous youth even worse.

Why would you vote for this lot…..

Facts and politicians have long been estranged You'll be expecting them to keep their promises and accept responsibilities for mistakes next

Love this! Get your facts straight, she's a horrible female, not a horrible male. She thinks that's some kind of win?

Even as a Greens supported, Lidia deserved this one. This is a harsh lesson that she'll need to learn. Her original points are valid, but geez, make sure to get things right....

Victoria Greens are ruining Australian Greens by abandoning the environment to instead focus on various social issues which are better off resolved minus the politics Vic Labor are cutting down forest, wiping out leadbeater's possum & yet Vic Greens are off on another tangent
