After years of drought there are high hopes for the southern cropping season, so how is it looking at the moment and how much is too much of a good thing?

There is a more than 70 per cent chance of above average rainfall for much of inland Australia this winter, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.Key points:Warm ocean temperatures are expected to fuel wet conditions, even if the climate drivers don't eventuateAndrew Watkins, head of long-range forecasting at the Bureau of Meteorology says we are certainly looking at above average rainfall for much of the country.

"It's great to see some dark green on the maps, particularly in western New South Wales and south-west Queensland, where of course we've had quite extreme drought conditions now for the past two to three years," Dr Watkins said. The rain is expected to keep daytime temperatures below average for regions lucky enough to get it, but the clouds are expected to act like a lid on a pot to keep overnight temperatures warm, according to Dr Watkins. There is still less than a 50/50 chance of hitting the criteria for the wet climate drivers, La Nina and a negative Indian Ocean Dipole, this year. The Indian Ocean is warm at the moment, especially near Australia and Indonesia.

Amazing what a break in the pollution will do

Yay ❤️

I guess climate change is responsible for this too

So we've gone from 'unprecedented heat and fires' to 'unprecedented rain'. Seriously ABC... Go home you're drunk.

Climate change positivity 👊

If anyone actually reads the article (not just the headline) you will see that the higher rainfall is caused by warming oceans. 'Warming'. That means getting hotter in case the scientific term is too hard.

LNP senator Gerard Rennick taught us climate model should not be trusted because of the Uncertainty Principle 😂

Love it.

But Tim Foolery told it was never going to rain again?

Not sure Tim Flannery ever said anything about plenty of rain. Weren't the dams meant to remain dry?

agendareassignment

And the ABC got this from BOM (who also told us no significant rain until April)? Hmmm.....

At least something is going right this year

I remember when you forecast no rain for months at the start of the year...🤷‍♀️

Someone was lying 🤥

So rain and snow. Let's give Tim Flannery another grant.

The ancient cultures had better tools for predicting weather than modern BOM.

Your idol disagrees

I hope Tim Flannery reads this

It's climate change. Woohoo!

Global warming ... hahahahaha

But but but Australia is on fire! Unprecedented!! Hottest ever!!!

Hence WA had felt the effects of an out of season Cyclone.😳 Nothing like putting a positive spin on freaky weather Go the Farmers also But the Main feature of this story could be should be is this👇

to everyone in the comments saying this means climate change is disproven: literally how

But that means climate change isn’t real.

Good.

Normal weather

werent we supposed to get catastrophic bush fires in august?

but come the first bushfire in the late Spring it will be ... Australia Is On Fire 2 youwish

Phew! I hope it hits the Northern Rivers. Another dry winter would mean another dangerous bush fire season.

What happened to hottest year eva.
