Federal court has heard Pauline Hanson also told a white Senator to go back to their country after allegations the same comments made to Mehreen Faruqi had targeted her as a “brown Muslim”.
Ms Faruqi has launched a lawsuit under the racial discrimination act in response to a social media post by Ms Hanson in which she said, “piss off back to Pakistan” to the Greens’ deputy leader. It appears Ms Hanson’s legal team has leaned into the One Nation leader’s anti-immigration rhetoric by claiming her tirades are discriminatory to all races equally.
“Merely referring to someone’s background or colour or race is not sufficient to prove the act was done because of that factor,” Ms Hanson’s lawyers had argued on Monday.
