Already a subscriber?The federal public service is a leader in gender equity, but more promotions still go to men and males are 2.5 times more likely than women to be in the highest-paid quartile, a new report has found.
“The Commonwealth public sector can be immensely proud of the fact the sector has gender balance in every level of management,” WGEA chief executive Mary Wooldridge said.effort to achieve them. “When employees can, for example, have some flexibility in their hours, they may not feel the need to reduce their hours to part-time to balance caring and other responsibilities,” Ms Wooldridge said.The smaller public sector pay gap is largely the result of better gender balance in management. This explains why men still dominate the top quartile of earners, with the report finding men are more than 2.5 times more likely to be in this bracket, compared with 1.9 times in the private sector.
