Gas will help Australia bounce back better and stronger from the pandemic, writes AngusTaylorMP

Australia's competitive advantage has always been based on affordable, reliable energy. As we turn to our economic recovery from COVID-19, affordable gas will play a central role in re-establishing the strong economy we need for jobs growth, funding government services and opportunities for all. Reliable and affordable power is more important now than ever.

It will also deliver important environmental outcomes. The International Energy Agency has estimated that coal-to-gas switching has avoided more than half a billion tonnes of emissions between 2010 and 2018. A separate CSIRO assessment of Queensland LNG production found that gas alone can reduce emissions from electricity production by up to 50 per cent. When gas backs up solar and wind, the emissions savings are even greater.Far from being a competitor, gas is complementary to renewable energy.

With industry analysis confirming investment confidence is at its highest levels, even more renewable capacity is expected to enter the market. The South Australian grid provides a great example for this partnership. As gas generation has increased in South Australia to support the increasing renewables capacity, emissions have continued to fall. They are now less than half of the National Electricity Market average.Fast-start gas generation can help to quickly fill the gap in drops in renewable output – some as quickly as five minutes.

AngusTaylorMP Time to remove my SMH Subscription only balanced rag left is The Saturday Paper, A BALANCED ENERGY POLICY is needed not just GAS

AngusTaylorMP The Taylor family are so crooked I'm surprised they're not Nationals.

AngusTaylorMP Natural gas

AngusTaylorMP A whole lot of hot methane gas fart.

AngusTaylorMP I'm sure Angus Taylor's Cayman island bank account will somehow get a bounce as well.

AngusTaylorMP No it won't

AngusTaylorMP Look at all the tweets above and below, all experts in the field, all know better.

AngusTaylorMP Who got the $80 million Angus?

AngusTaylorMP This is a good GHG story. This will close dirty coal power plants earlier and reduce CO2 emissions. Renewables are great but current energy storage solutions aren't ready to support a 100% renewables solution.

AngusTaylorMP Carbon dioxide in mask...that’s the gas you are talking about, no?

AngusTaylorMP What is this puff. Pieces in the smh! Can you please actually have journos write for your paper we dobt require govt ministers to write puff., nottogas .

AngusTaylorMP naomirwolf For God sake, woman wake up! 😉 Apparently, this happened while you were sleeping.

AngusTaylorMP What bullshit. It will be an expensive flop that produces few jobs, minimal tax revenue but lots of profit for LNP mates. Hopefully, this will be one of the many LNP announcements that come to nought.

AngusTaylorMP I'm more interested in a federal ICAC to put an end to this crony capitalism.

AngusTaylorMP Angus can write?

AngusTaylorMP AngusTaylorMP declare your pecuniary interests in the gas industry...

AngusTaylorMP I think SMH needs to change its name. 'The Costello Chronicle'

AngusTaylorMP Jaysus!

AngusTaylorMP Oink! Oink!

AngusTaylorMP Wait till you hear about the fast train plan between Melbourne and Brisbane!

AngusTaylorMP Thanks AngusTaylorMP but could we hear from an expert who knows what they’re actually talking about?

AngusTaylorMP Um When .....?

AngusTaylorMP Angus Taylor - you put the party donation coins in, and the propaganda and taxpayer subsidies come out

AngusTaylorMP Why are you publishing this garbage, yo?

AngusTaylorMP jesus fucking christ

AngusTaylorMP Dear Mr Taylor - you only serve the interests of big business, not the Australian consumers of your new found liquid gold...

AngusTaylorMP Are you guys fucking serious?

AngusTaylorMP ☀️

AngusTaylorMP Nine loves the Liberal party so much they take regular text messages from the PMO instructing them. Plus of course the Liberal Party fundraisers held at Nine HQ. The nytimes could teach our newspapers a little about editorial standards.

AngusTaylorMP And I'm sure he writes it, safe in the knowledge that he will not be around to deal with the consequences of pushing fossil fuels in the face of climate annihilation.

AngusTaylorMP Why is any news organisation permitting a clearly bought and owned politician, to spout such a transparently and probably false agenda? auspol

AngusTaylorMP Excellent first step. We have been choked by the climate change stupidity and renewables hoax.

PM pitches gas to lead economic recovery | Sky News AustraliaPrime Minister Scott Morrison has delivered his plan for the future of reliable and affordable power, whilst highlighting the significant role coal will continue to play in the nation’s rebuild from the economic destruction caused by the coronavirus.\n\n“In Australia, you cannot talk about electricity generation and ignore coal,” the prime minister said.\n\n“For decades, coal-fired generation has been a source of competitive strength for our economy – reliable, low-cost energy. This is still true.'\n\nIn his speech Prime Minister Morrison outlined his government’s agenda on energy, whilst making his pitch to the private sector.\n\n“To ensure affordable, reliable power, we need the market to deliver 1,000 megawatts of new dispatchable capacity of 2023-24, with final investment decisions by the end of April 2021.” \n\n“So, this is the plan – if the energy companies choose to step up and make these investments to create that capacity – great! Coalition divided over PM's gas-led recovery strategy | Sky News AustraliaThe Prime Minister has outlined his ambitious plan for a gas-led recovery out of the COVID-19 recession, issuing a strong ultimatum for the energy sector. \n\nThe Prime Minister demanded electricity generators develop a plan before April 2021 to fill a looming shortfall in dispatchable power due to the closure of the Liddell coal powerplant in the Hunter Valley.\n\nIf private companies fail to deliver, he promised the government would build a new gas power plant to replace the Liddell power station. \n\nThe Prime Minister said “if the energy companies choose to step up and make these investments to create that capacity, great, we will step back. If not, my government will step up and we will fill the gap”.\n\nUnder the gas-led national recovery plan, the Federal government will establish a gas distribution hub, a plan to unlock new gas supplies, investment in new pipelines and a ‘use it or lose it’ rule for gas licenses for companies sitting on reserves.\n\nHowever, some Coalition members have criticised the emphasis on gas with Qld Senator Matt Canavan saying a new advanced coal power station would be more appropriate for the Hunter Valley region given the natural supply of world-class thermal coal in the area. \n Wow cheap clean coal energy!! STOP the UN agenda Energy sector be like 🤷‍♂️ - go extract it yourself. everything he touches turns to sh it or a government ministerial offshore scheme/scam, what a narrow mind he has proven to have..downhillskier
