Former Prime Minister Imran Khan of Pakistan was wounded at a rally Thursday after at least one unidentified man opened fire on his convoy, in what aides have called a targeted attack.

Khan, 70, sustained bullet wounds in both legs and was moved to Lahore for treatment, officials said. Fawad Chaudhry, a senior member of Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf or PTI, called the shooting “100% an assassination attempt.” Dr Faisal Sultan, the former health minister who treated Khan, said at a news conference Thursday evening that Khan was in stable condition. Seven people including Khan were injured in the attack and one person died, according to Waqas Nazeer, the spokesperson for the Punjab police. One suspect has been detained, he added.

Khan claimed that the vote was part of a conspiracy by the country’s military establishment and his political opponents to oust him from power. And in the months since, the former cricket star turned politician has made a stunning comeback, drawing thousands to his rallies across Pakistan.

Labor needs to ‘stop pushing renewables so hard’ and support the gas industryLabor should be supporting the gas industry in order to push down energy prices, says Sky News host Chris Kenny. “The other way, of course, to help keep prices low is to stop pushing renewables so hard that gas generators can't afford to lock in long-term, cheaper gas contracts,” he said. Mr Kenny said the “soaring gas prices” are “feeding” into electricity prices, with policies having been “directed at pushing gas out”, resulting in the closing of gas generators. “And Labor wonders why the gas that's left is so expensive.” Is it not time that Australia and the US stop this war with the energy giants and cap prices to bring inflation down. Interest rates go up then energy prices go up and filter through to every aspect of economic and personal life. Rates seem futile... with energy unharnessed!
