There will be no group communique signed at the G7 meeting between international leaders this weekend, for the first time, with French President Emmanuel Macron saying nobody reads them anyway.

Host leader Mr Macron would instead rather rely on informal conversations and agreements.

The choice indicates leaders of some of the world's wealthiest nations don't expect the 45th G7 summit to be smooth sailing.
