NSW Supreme Court judge Francois Kunc has urged the federal government to fund a Yes and No campaign for this year’s referendum on the Indigenous Voice to parliament.

, which would acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders as well as Australia’s multicultural community, under the banner of Recognise a Better Way.Businessman and former political candidate Warren Mundine, who is leading the group, said it had financial support from wealthy Australians and constitutional conservatives, but described it as the underdog in any funding battle with the Yes case.

One issue which has become controversial for the government is the decision not to distribute a pamphlet to voters outlining the case for and against the referendum. Labor believes the practice is outdated in the social media era and wants to focus on online information and education campaigns.Advertisement

The judge noted that concern had been expressed about who would fact-check any official cases. “The answer is that the accuracy or otherwise of the cases would be generative of, and tested in, the public debate that would follow. Justice Kunc said the referendum should not get bogged down with detail because a constitution “is for principles, touchstones and only the most fundamental machinery”.

Does the Constitution require the govt to provide a balanced case for any referendum ?

This is nonsense.

We have always had equal funding for referendums

The “Voice” is nothing more then a Constitutional swindle, a stalking horse for purpose to provide local councils with constitutional recognition. It is nothing more then a Trojan horse that asserts it is providing aboriginal Australians with recognition via their councils.

Why? More taxes wasted. If the dude is so passionate about it, let him fund it privately.

How will this work if govt is the one spreading misinfo

Former John Howard ally Tony Nutt joins Voice Yes campaign groupThe Yes campaign for this year's Voice referendum is amassing a heavy-hitting group of business, legal and political minds to lead the case for change, announcing a respected Liberal strategist and John Howard confidant as its latest recruit. Extorting public funds to include First Nations in an obsolete Constitution to be extinguished with a republic, consent obtained from government sponsored signatories to a blank sheet, is brazen criminal fraud. Mr Albanese and his cronies should be behind bars. The traitorous scum self-present. Of course he does cause its a load of shit designed to yet again keep the liberals busy feeling good about themselves.

NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet says he supports the Voice ‘in principle’NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet says he supports the Voice “in principle” because being able to consult First Nations people “in respect of matters that affect them” is incredibly important. “I think this is a time where we should be united as a country, but we should also have a respectful debate,” Mr Perrottet told Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell. “And as Peter Dutton has raised concerns, he is completely right to do that.” Why do you need a “Voice” to consult your constituents? Isn’t that what local members are for? Don't need to write it into the constitution to be able to do that. Does he believe he should consult “constituents” in respect of all matters that affect them also? Or is that privilege reserved for Aboriginals only?

Voice model to be proposed after federal electionIndigenous leaders expect to take six months of consultations to sort the modelling for an advisory body on the Voice to Parliament, should Australia vote yes on the referendum. Some questions about the Voice will not be confirmed until the government and indigenous communities complete a “process of dialogue” that will stretch into mid-next year. The proposal would then go to a parliamentary committee before legislation establishing the Voice is proposed, where it might not be operational until after the next federal election. I’ll keep saying it, ‘The Voice’ is not about the interest of indiginous people, rather it’s about making Canberra shiny arses wealthier. The voice.... that'll fix everything! And how much will that cost?

‘Sectarian and discriminatory language’ has no place in NSW politics: MinnsNSW Opposition leader Chris Minns says there is no place for ClubsNSW CEO Josh Landis's 'sectarian and discriminatory language' in NSW politics. The SMH today published a comment from Mr Landis who blamed NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet’s conservative faith for wanting to reform gambling. “I frankly haven’t heard anything like this for decades,” Mr Minns said at a media conference on Tuesday morning. “There’s no place for that in NSW politics and we shouldn’t be introducing it.” This is business, not politics. At best ClubsNSW is a lobby group, not a political party. I didn't vote for them, or was given the opportunity at an election. Definitely not, the government ministers have that privilege.
