When one NSW aged care worker was asked to go and work for months on the “frontline” at a facility where residents had been infected with coronavirus, she didn’t hesitate.

Having worked in nursing for at least 43 years – the last 12 of which have been in aged care, and the last six with Anglicare Sydney, this wasn’t the first outbreak of disease in a home that Ms Giles had dealt with.

“So when I was asked to go – I went the following day – but before I went I did let my parents know and I did say a little goodbye to them, because I knew that I’d be away for a little while,” she said.“I was away from family for several months, and I did stay in accommodation for something like probably four months,” Ms Giles said, including an eight week period of self-isolation.

“We were in a little bubble, we knew what we were dealing with in that bubble, but it’s often harder for people on the outside and I can relate to that,” Ms Giles said. “I think we did really well at the home that I worked – and it was only because of all the support we got from the organisation and from the community,” she said.

‘Beggars belief’: Round-the-clock concrete plant for Sydney Harbour siteOpponents say plans to build a concrete batching plant on Glebe Island are at odds with the government’s plans to revive the area as a waterfront destination. MeganGorrey What !!!! They move the port to Botany, a shallow and dangerous harbour, and then proceed to turn Sydney Harbour into a casino infested, heavy industrial estate. Someone has not been taking their medication. MeganGorrey Typical. Here we are trying to resurrect Australian manufacturing but no-one wants it in their back yard. It's a working harbour not a playground for rich apartment owners. MeganGorrey Of course it beggars belief, putting industry where the rich people live and might have to see it sometimes? The horror!
