Six months ago, Aly Bull was in Tokyo getting ready to compete in the women’s kayak at the Olympics.
The competition, which runs from Friday to Sunday, will see the top 20 ironmen and 20 ironwomen return to Bondi beach for the first time in more than 10 years to compete in the first three rounds of the series.Aly Bull and Alyce Wood competing at the Olympics in August.Bull and her partner Alyce Wood missed out on a podium spot after coming fifth in the K2 500m final.
Having grown up in the world of lifesaving, Bull turned to kayaking to achieve her Olympic dream. She felt it was natural to go back to where it all began after the rough return from Tokyo. In Bull’s favour is the withdrawal of Australian ironwoman champion Georgia Miller, who has pulled out on medical advice.
Louis said this year’s series had a different look given the COVID-19 situation, with athletes concerned they will be forced to pull out midway through the tournament due to a positive test.
