The Aboriginal flag will be free for all to use after the federal government acquired the copyright in a $20 million deal with artist Harold Thomas.

The Aboriginal flag will be transferred to public hands for the first time, freeing its use for Indigenous community groups and sporting codes after the Australian government reached a historic deal with its creator to permanently acquire copyright more than 50 years after it was first flown.

“In the future, the flag will remain, not as a symbol of struggle but as a symbol of pride and unity,” he said.Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the finalisation of more than two years of delicate and sensitive negotiations between the Commonwealth and Mr Thomas would free the Aboriginal flag for all Australians.

The government will also provide an annual scholarship in Mr Thomas’ honour worth $100,000 for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders students to further the development of Indigenous governance and leadership.Credit:The National Indigenous Australians Agency will also create an online history and education portal for the flag.

“The Flag represents the timeless history of our land and our people’s time on it. It is an introspection and appreciation of who we are. It draws from the history of our ancestors, our land, and our identity and will honour these well into the future.” Several prominent Indigenous athletes, including Olympian Nova Peris and AFL greats Lance Franklin and Michael Long also gave voice to the campaign to free the flag for community use.

Pharmacists struggle to meet demand for free COVID test kits amid stock shortageMany chemists do not have enough rapid antigen tests to start handing out free kits to pensioners when the federal scheme begins on Monday, as the Pharmacy Guild blasts the government for failing to regulate their sale. Covid19 I'm sure Sir Announcalot will be able to shift the blame to Putin or Andrews or..... anybody, but take responsibility himself. And yet this masthead keeps promoting him. Pharmacy Guild Said: “Why didn’t they regulate? It’s really hard once you make everything free market.” Pharmacy Guild means: why didn’t you give us an exclusive distribution deal, so we could make even more $$$’s from the government. We have the state govt buying up for businesses, education etc, feds buying for aged care, pensioners etc. What hope in hell do the rest of us have of finding any
