Queensland Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington has denied suggestions she is running a dirty campaign after a video targeting Deputy Premier Steven Miles was posted to the LNP Queensland Facebook page.

The video purports to show Mr Miles struggling to talk and walk, also including a video of him eating a fly. Asked about the campaign, Ms Frecklington said she was not responsible and had not actually seen the ad. “It was the premier who set up this campaign as a nasty campaign,” she said. The opposition leader is set to continue seat blitzes in northern Queensland ahead of the election.

Australia needs initiatives 'specifically targeted to help men's mental health' | Sky News AustraliaPsychologist Tanveer Ahmed says if the Morrison government wants to make progress in their goal of zero suicide, they need to “target their funding to male specific initiatives”.\n\nFigures released earlier this week showed men are killing themselves at higher rates than ever before and were now almost four times more likely to commit suicide than women.\n\n“What we’re not doing is recognising that suicide is mostly a male problem and targeting funding, messaging and policy accordingly,” Mr Ahmed said. \n\n“There’s recognition when we talk about issues like domestic violence that women are predominantly the victims. \n\n“The same doesn't happen with suicide. How much of this is because we just can’t see males as victims?”\n \nMr Ahmed said the feminist answer to the issue of male suicide, parroted by many men, is that “blokes need to be more like women, more vulnerable, seeking help through traditional outlets like counselling”. \n\n“This view also seeps into our institutions,” he said. \n\n“Is this really the answer? Granted, traditional masculinity has taken a great hit with social and economic changes- work with the hands is not as common, men are no longer naturally seen as providers and protectors.\n\n“There should be an onus on organisations to target blokes better, go to where they are and also do a better job at recruiting men into care giving roles. \n\n“Mateship and peer support for example have deep roots into the Australian psyche. Male only spaces are important. We must resist the cultural pressures to feminise.\n\n“There aren’t easy answers or silver bullets, but this week’s suicide figures scream for a greater, more specific focus on men.”\n\nAnyone who may be feeling distressed can contact the following organisations for support. \n\nSANE Helpline 1800 18 72 63 \n\nLifeline 131 114 \n\nBeyond blue 1300 22 4636\n Maybe get rid of your storm trooper police force as a start ...
