Indigenous children have remained disproportionately represented in Australian out-of-home care statistics, despite overall rates remaining steady.

A 118-page annual report, released on Tuesday by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, shows one in four of the roughly 46,000 children in out-of-home care in mid-2020 were Indigenous.

Almost two-thirds of that group were living with family or other Indigenous caregivers, with the rest in other arrangements including foster care. Some 14,300 Indigenous children had reports of abuse substantiated, with emotional abuse and neglect the two most common forms of mistreatment.

Like me who lives remote, this is a fact and not only impacts indigenous Australians!

There are such families in my town. Until PARENTS stop the horrendous neglect of their children, there is no option. Its a last resort after all relatives are contacted to try and find a home for the kids.

Probably best to remove them and put them with good well adjusted foster parents, oh wait that's been done before.......

This must change and be dealt with ASAP . Outcomes for aboriginal children in health , education, employment and social welfare and their home and living situation must be up to the standards, which the rest of Australian children enjoy and I think most Australians would agree.😉
