Former teacher at prestigious Sydney boys' school jailed

A former teacher at a prestigious Sydney boys' school will spend at least nine months in jail after claiming he downloaded child exploitation material to research a novel. He had assumed the identity of a fictional Russian woman to share materialReinier Jessurun, who has worked at Newington College and overseas, made full admissions when he was arrested by Australian Federal Police officers in April 2018.

The 54-year-old assumed the identity of a fictional Russian woman, Natisha Matzkovko, with three separate Google accounts to share material with others. "I am sceptical about the offender's account as to the reasons for his offending, particularly given he transmitted the images to people who clearly did have a sexual interest in children," she said. The earliest he will be eligible for release is May 2020.The judge said Jessurun was highly regarded as a teacher and there was no suggestion the crimes were linked to his workplace.

'Tropical vagrants' helping growth of coral reef off SydneyAs waters warm, a sub-tropical species of coral burgeoning off the coast of Sydney has scientists asking whether the city can produce a reef of its own. There is no proof for the claims made in this article because the areas were not photographically documented over time in a systematic way and the area can see sea surface temperature changes of -2 to +2 C over a period of just a few years which overwhelms any long term trend.
